The theory of Unitary Executive shreds the Constitution!... AGAIN!

As with the warrant less wiretapping by the NSA that we're just learning about, the jettison of the Geneva Conventions back in Oct. of '01 and the stripping of Habeas Corpus of enemy combatants are all examples of the Theory of Unitary Executive.  This is a theory that in a time of war, the President's authority expands and he can disregard any laws he wants.

Given that we are in a "war on terror" that has no bounds and no end in sight, this theory has fully taken over within the Bush 2.0 administration.  When I talk to people about the jettison of the Geneva Conventions, I come from the point of view that it's hard for us to live in a free and just democratic society.  And if we stoop to the level of the terrorists and torture/strip them of their rights while in custody, then we are just as bad as they are.  This "war on terror" is a war of ideas and ideology, not who has the biggest army or the most land.  Until we get that through our heads, we are going to be creating more terrorists than we're killing.
