Frame the issues in extremes

The red Republicans and the blue Democrats love to frame the issues in extremes because it sells better in this hyper active media world that we find ourselves in.  When you only get a 15 second sound bite, if you sound reasonable about an issue, the feeling goes that you don't create any motivation for the voter to act.  It's only when the issues are presented in extreme terms that people get motivated and vote based on those extreme positions that they connect with.

As a PURPLE person, I hate this.  As a strategist, I embraced it.  When you hear a politician take a position on an issue, ask yourself what the opposite position would be then ask yourself, is there a middle ground?  Usually, that's where the real negotiation in DC happens otherwise, no bills would pass.   Even when Bush 2.0 stomps his feet and berates the Democratic House and Senate for not doing what he wants, his advisers are still working behind the scenes to try and find a common ground.  We need a President who can bring both sides to the table in the first place so they can bypass all of this political point scoring and get things done.
