Opposition research...

In case you're new to politics, are thinking about running for office at the Federal or State level or want to know the ins and outs of a campaign, Opposition Research is a big part of it.  In the primaries, you're diggin' up dirt on your opponents in your own party and then, if you're lucky enough to win the nomination, you turn your oppo team (as they're called) on to the nomination of the opposite party.

Simple enough but when that research moves from the votes and positions taken by a candidate to that candidat's personal life, the line can be blurred and before one knows it, they're not themselves anymore, making attacks that in the normal world are considered cheap, dirty or un-ethical... welcome to politics.  As you've heard me rant before, politics doesn't have a referee, no judge and jury other than the voters on voting day.  Such a wide open contest leaves itself open to those cheap, dirty and un-ethical tactics used to win.
