Reminiscing about Monica...

Today, Timothy Noah in Slate, reminded me that this week is the 10th anniversary for Monicagate.  Back in January of '98, I was in the thick of if in DC working in my family's political shop trying to get more Republicans elected to the Congress and figure out a way to win the White House in 2000... needless to say, Monicagate swung the door wide open in terms of 2000 and we knew it.  Now, I couldn't care less about President Clinton's infidelity but when it came out that he lied under oath, that's another story.  Looking back, politics got the better of him... as in, he could have just fessed up, apologized to the country and moved on but instead we got into the meaning of "is" and consistent denials until, ultimately, he was forced to go on TV and admit he made a mistake.  But when I compare all that to the damage done by the Theory of Unitary Executive undertaken by Bush 2.0, I come to realize that Monicagate pales in comparison.
