Bush 2.0's unwillingness to admit when something is going south...
Given the recent turmoil in our economy, I thought it might be interesting to see how Bush 2.0 has dealt with this gathering storm, how that relates to other "gathering storms" we've seen prior and how politics has played a role.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming our declining economy 100% on Bush 2.0 but I am saying that Bush 2.0 was in fairy tale land until just recently admitting that the economy is looking at a slow down (but don't ask WH spokesperson Tony Fratto, he still doesn't see a looming recession). Back in August when every economist around the country was worried about our situation, Bush came out and said everything is fine, nothing to see here now... obviously wanting to calm investors and save what's left of his poll numbers but the question I have is: would it have been better to just admit the gathering storm back in the fall instead of bury our head in the sand?
The same can be said of Iraq... instead of admit that we went in with too few troops back in the fall of 2003 or winter of 2004 or winter of 2005 or spring of 2005 and put the "surge" in then, Bush 2.0 (with a complicit congress) put it's head in the sand and said every thing is fine, nothing to see here. Instead, Bush waited until the last possible minute, the day after the Dems took the House and Senate that he let Rummy go, let the Iraq Study group recommendations come and go and then finally in Jan. of '07 say we needed more troops.
The last example was a literal gathering storm... Hurricane Katrina. We were tracking it, we knew is was going to hit big yet when Bush got briefed on the storm, he didn't ask one question, not one. Then after Bush 2.0 was slow footed and everyone and their mother could see the hardship that the people at the Super Dome were going through Bush told Michael Brown, "You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie."
My main point is this: I want a leader, Democrat or Republican, who is going to be straight with me and not play politics with "gathering storms" and sweep everything under the rug until the damage is so far beyond repair that nothing can be done. Bush 2.0 has a pattern of hiding from gathering storms by admitting nothing while they stick their heads in the sand.
