Slackers, Freeloaders and Shysters...

It really burns me when I hear of any slackers, freeloaders or shysters gaming our government by not paying their taxes, scamming unemployment benefits, impersonating flood victims and taking their insurance money from FIMA... the list goes on.  There are a lot of lazy, bad and unethical people out there and I don't want my taxes helping them out.

However, I also have empathy for the poor, the jobless or the homeless.  I don't hold a value judgment against people in situations like that because I don't know their situation.  And so whenever I catch myself getting worked up over this person stealing this or that person scamming that out of my tax dollars, I remind myself that those types of people are the exception, not the norm.  That just because someone is taking advantage of a system they shouldn't doesn't mean that someone who really needs that assistance shouldn't get it.

So while I can gripe and moan about my taxes going to a slacker, freeloader or shyster working the system like the reddest of red stater, as I've gotten older, I've also become more empathetic towards the people who really need our help.
