Going to Church AND Temple

As most of you know, I had a specific need to start this blog anonymously and that has stuck for the last five plus years but as this election has progressed and as I continue re-assess my positions and beliefs, I find it very difficult to blog about some issues without getting personal.

So I've decided to open up a bit and post about going to church and temple.  Yep, my father, a Jew, fell in love with my mother, a Catholic, on some campaign trail way back when.  And growing up, I went to church on Sundays and temple on the high holidays.  They didn't Baptize me nor did I go through a Bar Mitzvah, I just went and listened.  I like different parts about each religion and freely enjoy holidays from both.  Now some from either religion might find fault with how I was brought up but it's a great country, America, because I get to practice my religion however I choose.

The separation of Church and state is a founding principle or our country that I believe very strongly in.  Part of the reason for my drift from Red state red toward Purple are the disturbing actions taken by Bush 2.0 to politicize/promote a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, abstinence only eduction, the rise of creationism vs. evolution, abortion, stem cell research and their Faith Based initiatives (which is fine if you evenly spread these initiatives/$ between all of the different religions but I don't think that's happening in its current form).  What I get really upset by is when I see politicians trying to change the rules for everyone based on their own personal beliefs... that's not was America is about, especially for a hybrid like me.
