Bad news day for Senator McCain
On top of the NYTimes story today about McCain's relationship with a lobbyist, the AP is reporting that the FEC is asking questions about the Senator's loan from a bank that used public financing money due to him as collateral for the loan to keep his campaign from sinking. If those public monies were promised as collateral to the bank, then McCain would be forced to stay in the public financing system throughout the campaign... and given how much $ Obama is raising, that could be a huge handicap in the general. BUT, since there are only two members on the FEC at the moment due to nominations for the other two being stalled in the Senate, all the FEC can do now is ask questions with no "teeth". Maybe this will put a fire under Senator Reid to get those nominations through.
