McCain agrees with Osama bin Laden

I'll start by quoting John McCain: "For the first time, I have seen Osama bin Laden and General (David) Petraeus in agreement, and, that is, a central battleground in the battle against al-Qaida is in Iraq today. And that's what bin Laden was saying and that's what General Petraeus is saying and that's what I'm saying, my friends."

This is a completely bone headed comment.  Don't you think that bin Laden would want the U.S. to stay in Iraq for as long as possible so we don't put the resources and manpower into the mountains of Afghanistan to find/kill him?  Of course bin Laden wants us bogged down in Iraq... we're losing soldiers, wasting billions (some say trillions) of dollars and doing just what bin Laden wants.  Throwing our global economy into a tailspin is just an added benefit.  Also, Iraq and our occupation of that country is the best selling tool that bin Laden has to recruit new soldiers to his cause.  Saying that since bin Laden says Iraq is the central front on the "war on terror" makes it so, is buying into his importance and relevance in the situation we find ourselves in while letting him dictate the terms of our engagement against Al Qaeda.   That is the wrong way to fight this war and John McCain should know better.
