Stop-Loss the movie
I saw the movie Stop-Loss yesterday and I wanted to comment on it... first off, even though it was a little depressing, it was a good movie that I would recommend. Secondly, I felt that the scenes taking place in Iraq, in house to house; street to street; roof top to roof top fighting all seemed authentic and captured the difficult nature of the urban fighting. Before we even entered Iraq, all of the experts said that the worst situation we could get ourselves in is if we get caught in an urban warfare environment... well we did and this movie puts such fighting into perspective. Thirdly, Kimberly Pierce does a good job of showing how PTSD affects our troops and their families when they come back from a war theater. Lastly, they gave some pretty sobering figures at the end of the movie... out of the 650,000 soldiers who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, 81,000 have been stop-lossed. Currently, figures haven't been released detailing the number of soldiers stop-lossed to accomplish Bush 2.0's present "surge" (I call it a TROOP INCREASE).
