Throwing the law and the constitution out the window
I'm tired, really, really tired of reading different articles about how Bush 2.0 and his lawyerly cronies have gutted the constitution and thrown the law out the window. Since I'm so tired of reading about such actions and since the scandal fatigue has been taken to a new level with the recent release of Yoo's memos justifying these actions, I'm going to leave you with some links to check out if you're up for it.
But before I do, here is the last paragraph of an AP article about Yoo's memo justifying the disregard of the 4th amendment when it comes to search and seizure in the United States:
THIS ONE about how lawyers like Yoo and Addington give cover to Bush 2.0 to hide with plausible deniability from the law.
THIS ONE about how to fix the laws broken by Bush 2.0 during wartime by the next president.
And lastly, THIS ONE, about how to fix the executive branch after the damage done but Bush 2.0, Cheney and the lawyers who gave the "reasoning" and legal cover for their actions.
Hat tip to Slate.com for their diligent reporting of the these outrageous illegal activities... but man, am I tired.
But before I do, here is the last paragraph of an AP article about Yoo's memo justifying the disregard of the 4th amendment when it comes to search and seizure in the United States:
"'The recent disclosures underscore the Bush administration's extraordinarily sweeping conception of executive power," said Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU's National Security Project. "The administration's lawyers believe the president should be permitted to violate statutory law, to violate international treaties, and even to violate the Fourth Amendment inside the U.S. They believe that the president should be above the law."
"Each time one of these memos comes out you have to come up with a more extreme way to characterize it," Jaffer said."
