Does VP Cheney really believe himself?

Posted on the White House's website is an interview between Sean Hannity and VP Cheney where the Vice President says the below quote in response to a question about the consequences of leaving Iraq:

"For us to walk away from Iraq I think would have at least that bad an effect, probably worse, because if al Qaeda were to take over big parts of Iraq, among other things, they would acquire control of a significant oil resource. Iraq has almost 100 billion barrel reserves, producing 2.5-3 million barrels of oil a day. If you take a terrorist organization like al Qaeda and give it that kind of revenue, there's no telling the amount of trouble they could get into."

Based on the above answer, our own Vice President doesn't know Iraq 101... first of all, Basra is the southern, second largest city where all of Iraq's oil flows through and it is that city that is currently controlled by the Shi'a sect, specifically Sadr's Mahdi Army, as we have seen in recent clashes.  Al Qaeda is at the fringes of the Sunni sect, not Shi'a, so for Al Qaeda to even have a chance a getting control of Iraq's oil, it would have to defeat the Mahdi Army that even the U.S. can't wrest control of Basra from.  Secondly, by recent estimates, Al Qaeda only makes up 10% of the militia and terrorist forces currently in Iraq... so to say that a small group like Al Qaeda is going to get control of Iraq's oil is not feasible.  The VP is in full spin mode as they grasp at straws to keep their Iraq policy afloat by duping the American public... makes me sick just thinking about it.

Does Bush 2.0 (and his VP) still have your trust?
