Gay couples and taxes
I believe that the whole debate about gay marriage is more about words and grammatical semantics so that some people (heterosexual people who are against gay marriage) can feel more comfortable with themselves instead of letting people live and let live when it comes to their sexuality. The ultimate wedge issue that masks our true society. I live in New York City, have many gay friends and can't believe that they aren't able to be legally connected under the law. But when I read how much gay couples get shafted by the U.S. government when it comes to paying their taxes BECAUSE there is no legal footing for them under the law, I get angry. We need to change that.
