My big reveal... and an endorsement.

When I first started this blog, keeping my anonymity was of the utmost importance given that I was trying to expose an illegal political tactic in New Hampshire during the 2002 election cycle but as we continue to move toward November of 2008 and at the urging of my husband, I decided to drop some of that anonymity so you would better understand my positions on certain issues.  So with that, my little slice of the blogging Internet is now called Little Ms. Purple.  Below is an email that I sent out to my network announcing this decision and my reason for doing so:

Dear fellow bloggers, journalists, and all around political junkies,

Yep, you read that right… Mr. Purple is not a “Mr.” at all.  Actually, I’m a “Ms.” as in Little Ms. Purple… at least that’s what my husband calls me and now, due to his prodding to get me somewhat out from behind my anonymity, you can too.  There you have it.  The cat is out of the bag.  When I started blogging back in October of 2002, with an “off the record” tip I got from a former colleague, I had a very good reason for hiding behind as much anonymity as possible. I was trying to sniff out the New Hampshire phone jamming plans that were being hatched by the RNC to hold Senator Sununu’s seat before Election Day. And given that I grew up in the world of politics in which my family made their living, I couldn’t jeopardize their careers even if I was already out of the game. So I stuck with “Mr.” as opposed to “Ms.” for that added layer of secrecy.

You see, both of my parents are political strategists; one on the left and one on the right.  That’s the world I grew up in.  Mary Matalin and James Carville aren’t the only married political duo working opposite sides of the aisle. There are in fact quite a few, but as my parents taught me early on, their job wasn’t to be on the Sunday morning talk shows so everyone across America knew who they were and what they did. Rather, they believe that a professional political strategist should stay as far away from publicity as possible, or as Dick Cheney would say, “living in the shadows”.

I have to admit that even though we were successful at catching the RNC in their phone jamming scheme back in 2002, I didn’t really take to blogging and only would post a couple times a month when the feeling struck.  But as 2007 came to a close and as the American public began to turn their attention to the upcoming election, I felt a little left out; so left out, in fact, that I made a decision to re-launch my blog and blog religiously through Election Day 2008. I wanted my observations and critiques in the mix—culled from my previous experience working as a Republican strategist in the family business, in addition to being able to comment on certain issues that I feel passionate about.  Needless to say, I haven’t been very good at hiding my bias toward Senator Obama even though the last campaign I worked on was in 2000 for Senator McCain.  If this primary fight shakes out like I think it will and we have McCain vs. Obama in the general election (two PURPLE candidates), I wouldn’t be happier. And with that, I now officially endorse Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States.  Please know that I have zero connection to the campaign nor do either of my parents.

Please note that now www.MrPurple2008.com will forward to www.LittleMsPurple.com as I continue to blog at least once a day through Election Day 2008.  You can reach me at littlemspurple [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

Lastly, after I initially saw the “Yes We Can” video by will.i.am using the text from Barack Obama’s New Hampshire primary losing speech, I asked a friend of my husband’s if he could use his musical talents and super duper mac to record a cover of the song that I could then listen to on my iPod. Well, he did and it’s awesome.  So awesome that I’ve uploaded the song to the net, so if you would like to download a copy for free for yourself, email me at the above address with “Yes We Can mp3” in the title and I’ll email you back with the link for the download. And no, your email will not be given out to anyone or sold to anyone for anything, period.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Sincerely,
Little Ms. Purple
