"Learning as we go..."

Bush 2.0 gave the commencement address at the Air Force Academy and in that address, he said something that really caught me off guard.  He said, "Today, we're helping emerging democracies rebuild under fire from terrorist networks and state sponsors of terror. This is a difficult and unprecedented task -- and we're learning as we go. For example, in Iraq we learned from hard experience that newly liberated people cannot make political and economic progress unless they first have some measure of security. In 2006, Iraqis did not have this security, and we all watched as their capital descended into sectarian violence."

Georgey boy, let me fill you in on something, this isn't learning as we go, this is not listening to your armed service personnel who said before the war that we would need upwards of 400,000 troops to secure the country and give them the security they need to get their government up and running.  If you hadn't stuck your head in the sand and convinced yourself that everything was hunky dory in Iraq for the first five years we wouldn't have had to "surge" in the beginning of 2007.  Oh yeah, I forgot, you were running for re-election and then trying to hold on to the Republican majorities in Congress and any change in tactic in Iraq would have been a sign of weakness.  This isn't learning as you go, George, this is re-learning what we already knew before we even entered Iraq!  This is reverting back to what we knew would be the case but what you and Rummy and Cheney all felt needed to be "changed"... thanks for your little experiment, sir.
