More on McClellan selling his book...
I wanted to write a follow-up post after watching the coverage over the last couple of days about former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan's book. First, I'd like to comment on how I've seen various reporters with major outlets completely disagree with McClellan's account of how the White House press corps wasn't as tough as it should have been on Bush 2.0's case for war in Iraq. What neither David Gregory of NBC or Mike Allen of Politico (two of the many refuting this specific charge by McClellan) fail to put into context in the defense of their own reporting was how the country looked at and treated Bush 2.0 following 9/11/01. The "kid glove" treatment toward Bush 2.0 after that attack lasted for three to five years and beyond when it came to fighting terror and how we were going to go about doing that. But then today I came across THIS REPORTING of CNN reporter Jessica Yellin saying how she was pressured by her previous employer (ABC) to steer away from harsh or critical stories about Bush 2.0 between July 2003 and August 2007. David Gregory and Mike Allen were probably asking the tough questions but they should only put that in the context of their own reporting and not what was happening at other networks or newspapers (NYTimes, I'm talking to you). For them to give the blanket denial that such special or "kid glove" treatment wasn't happening at all is disingenuous.
Now below is footage of McClellan today on the Today show selling his book by talking about how the White House would rather he not speak out... ya think? It's worth watching.
