The New John McCain
Long time readers know that the last campaign I worked on was John McCain's Republican primary race back in 2000. I became disgusted with the dirty tactics used against him in that race and decided to step out of politics altogether due to that experience. After having watched McCain run in this race, I am disheartened by all of the changes that he has made to his positions to curry favor with the Republican base... first he was against the Bush tax cuts of 2001 & 2003, now he's for keeping them permanent; he says he's against torture (and I do believe him) but he votes with Bush 2.0 on the issue; he wants to confront global warming (unlike Bush 2.0) but wants to lift drilling restrictions (like Bush 2.0)... you get the picture. But to put this into more clarity, here is a video of McCain contradicting himself. I really believed in him back in 2000 but given the challenges we face now and given his shift on the issues, I don't seem to recognize the candidate I knew anymore.
