Obama's big bet...

Via a YouTube video, Senator Obama has declared that he is going to opt out of public financing, forgoing the $80 million of public funds because he believes that his network of grassroots donors can make that up in a couple of months... it's probably a good bet.  The only catch is that he is going to be hammered by McCain and the Repubs for seeming to break a pledge (it wasn't a pledge; he said he would consider it but they won't present the attack that way) he made about opting into public financing.  His reasoning as shown below is that McCain refuses to police 527 groups seeding attack ads on his behalf which defeats the role of public financing in the first place... I don't know if the general public will buy that argument but we will know in time.  Personally, I believe it's the right move for him to make.

UPDATE: Here's McCain's response and as I predicted he says that Obama made a promise (which he didn't) and McCain still hasn't come clean about that loan from a bank he got by using his public financing as collateral in the primary race while then trying to opt out of public financing... hmmm.
