The waterboarding must have gotten to Christopher Hitchen's head

The last time that I blogged about Hitchens was when he was waterboarded for a Vanity Fair article and it was one of my most popular posts drawing unique views and emails galor... and now, after reading his latest piece in Slate.com, I think that the waterbaording has really screwed with his head.  He argues that we can fight two (or more wars) at once and that Obama (and his liberal supporters) are wrong to want to draw down in Iraq so we can double down in Afghanistan.  Now, if we went into Iraq WITH A PLAN while Afghanistan was under FIRM control, I might agree that we could fight the two wars at once if Saddam had a nuclear weapon pointed at us or one of our allies but at the particular crossroads we find ourselves in TODAY, our military is just about broken.  It's going to cost $500 billion to get our military back into the shape it was BEFORE the Iraq war.  None of this is easy to accept and all we have are bad or worse choices to make given the situation that we are in... BUT OUR SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED!  We're here not because of good planning but because our foreign policy was hijacked by ideology.  Hitchens loves to pit the war hawk against the liberal but the choices that we have before us don't change depending on which side of the isle you're on... the choices are what they are and we are only in this position because Bush 2.0 CHOSE to put us here and now it's going to be somebody else's job to clean up after him.
