An October Surprise in July
An October Surprise, in political jargon, is an event or action taken by an individual, a politician or administration that could potentially influence the outcome of an election.
The news that Bush 2.0 was going to establish a diplomatic presence in Iran that broke yesterday, I believe, could be an October Surprise in July. What I mean is that Bush 2.0 wants to give McCain as much help as he can so by taking steps to normalize relations with Iran now, I believe that Bush 2.0 feels such a move will calm the oil markets which in turn will help to stabilize our economy and the stock market. By pushing Congress to open up off shore drilling and in the wild life reserve in Alaska, Bush 2.0 is keeping his oil men cronies happy while the diplomatic presence in Iran is what will REALLY bring the price of oil down. Bush 2.0 is threading the needle by being willing to give up on his "we won't talk to Iran until they disband their nuclear activities" to potentially calm the oil market, prop up our economy and give McCain an opportunity in the fall to claim that Bush 2.0 policies are pulling us out of the recession and that we need to keep on that track. It's a brilliant political move behind the scenes but it will also open the door for Obama to claim that all of this could have happened years ago. The question is, who will the American people side with?
