Obama's Purple path makes it harder for himself

Don't know if you saw this or not but Obama has said that if opening up some of the off shore drilling areas to big oil companies is part of an overall comprehensive energy bill, he might consider doing such for the sake of compromise and getting an energy bill made into law.  This is the purple road that is easier for a politician to take AFTER they have been elected.  For Obama to talk about this now is a dangerous path for him to take but I get the feeling that Obama couldn't do it any other way... and we should give him props for being honest.  We're so used to having politicians tells us what we want to hear that when someone actually speaks his or her mind, knowing that they are going to upset people on the far right AND the far left, we're caught off guard.  Personally, I don't want to open up off shore drilling but if the Dems in the Senate don't get the nine wins they need to get to a 60 filibuster proof majority in the Senate, these are the kinds of compromises we can expect from an Obama presidency... a purple path that I'm all for if it moves our country forward and deals realistically with the numerous problems we are currently facing.
