Al-Sadr changes his position on disarming his militia in Iraq
I recently posted about how al-Sadr decided that he was going to disarm his militia and I wrote about how I felt that this was a great move forward for Iraq. Now, however, he seems to have shifted his position. Al-Sadr now says that he will disarm his militia IF the U. S. sets a timetable for withdrawl. This is disconcerting in that recent reporting mentioned in the above article is that the U. S. is close to agreeing that all combat troops will be out of Iraq by October of 2010 but now with Al-Sadr's condition, this might spook Bush 2.0 and revert him back to his cowboy diplomacy. I hope it doesn't but if al-Sadr could have just kept his mouth shut, he would have gotten what he wanted without jeopardizing his goal.
