Should we really be pissing off Russia with our missile defense shield?

Bush 2.0 and his administration have thumbed its nose at Russia by signing an agreement with Poland to base our missile defense shield in their country (which Russia strenuously opposes) at a time when we should be keeping the lines of communication with Russia open and free of potential new/different conflicts.

This type of move is the same kind of cowboy diplomacy that hasn't worked for the past seven and a half years so why should it work now?  Bush 2.0 recently said that "bullying and intimidation" between countries have no place in the 21st century... so what can you call signing an agreement with Poland that will put U. S. missiles 115 miles from Russia's border with disregard to their objections?  Smells like bullying and intimidation to me...

UPDATE: In response to Russia's bluster about the deal, Rice basically says 'bring it on'.  Certainly makes me feel safer... NOT.
