Biden's Plagiarism: the full story
I've been waiting to read a full account of the plagiarism instances that forced Joe Biden from the campaign trail for President in '88 and HERE, I've found it. MediaMatters does a great job of breaking down the reporting from a number of outlets from both back in '88 during the actual incident to yesterday and how outlets were re-reporting it given that Biden was picked as Obama's VP nominee to get to the heart of the story.
Biden's plagiarism goes something like this... Biden did use a quote from British politician Neil Kinnock on two occasions in which he did not give Kinnock credit for the quote. However, Biden also used the quote on the stump both before and after these two instances many times and did give Kinnock credit. Basically, that's the jist of Biden's plagiarism scandal. If you're like me, when I first heard about this, I was taken aback and Biden's stock in my mind greatly dimished. However, upon learning the full extent of the incident and the surrounding circumstances, I see it in a different light and I don't believe that it should prevent Biden from running as Obama's VP.
