Unlike McCain, General Petraeus acknowledges...

...that the decrease in violence that we see in Iraq today "perhaps" could have happened without the military surge.  As Petraeus explains in an interview with Newsweek, the Awakening is the lynch pin that moved security forward in Iraq.  The surge, he says, did help empower the Sheiks to expunge Al Qaeda, but he also acknowledges that "perhaps" such a turn against Al Qaeda would have happened without the surge.

How do you respond to that, Senator McCain?
