Political conventions are messy affairs...
Since the Democratic convention kicked off last night and we only get one weekend to catch our breath before the Republican convention, I wanted to share with you my thoughts on political conventions.
They are messy affairs that don't have a score board and are the pundits delight because they can pretty much say whatever they want... take last night for example. You've got people who think that Edward Kennedy and Michelle Obama weren't tough enough on Bush 2.0 and his disastrous Presidency while others thought that Michelle struck the exact right chord. That's why conventions are messy... they are subjective affairs that only matter with regards to what someone feels on the inside while watching. I'm in the camp that believes Michelle's speech last night was pitch perfect and if I was advising her, I would have made sure she stayed away from any partisian mud-slinging. It's not her place. The mud-slinging will be had before the closing gavel, I would bet my life savings on it but last night was not the right time nor the right speaker to engage in such.
And did I mention that most of the time, they are very, very boring? Other than the big speeches, most of a convention is like watching paint dry. It'll be interesting to see what kind of poll bounces we get after this thing wraps up... but again, that will turn on how the speeches made people feel on the inside, not what the pundits spew inbetween.
