McCain's "My friends" crutch gets a real break down
As I've blogged about it before, McCain's use of the phrase "My friends..." or any iteration thereof has become a crutch for him that I believe doesn't serve him well. Paul Collins on Slate.com notices this crutch as well and gives us a history lesson of where this phrase in the political context has come from and who has used it in the past. The research that I find most fascinating in Paul's reporting is that on the McCain website, you don't really see many "my friend" or "my friends..." references in his archived speeches but in actuality, McCain uses it A LOT in those speeches. Kinda like how the White House likes to fudge or "shape" their transcripts of Bush 2.0 press conferences or speeches every now and then...
