The double edged sword of Hurricane Gustav... and "praying for rain"!

There are two sides for the Republicans and their convention in terms of Hurricane Gustav:  First off, all of our thoughts and prayers should be with the people battling this storm in their backyards and I believe the Republicans were right to downplay the first night of their convention and turn their focus to Gustav.  However, given the government's response THIS TIME AROUND by getting nearly 2 million people evacuated, it brings back to mind Katrina and how that evacuation SHOULD HAVE been handled.  Secondly, when Katrina hit, McCain was standing on an airport tarmac getting a birthday cake from President Bush vs. when Gustav hit, McCain and the Republicans pull back the first night of their convention and give the hurricane the respect it deserves... that's a pretty stark contrast given that's its only been three years since Katrina.

I'm sure that since Gustav didn't cause the damage that it could have since the levees in New Orleans held firm, that the Republicans will get their stride and serve up the red meat their constituents expect tomorrow and Thursday... but I guess we'll have to wait and see how this unfolds.  One thing is for certain, remember that guy (video below) who wanted everyone to "pray for" rain for Obama's acceptance speech in Denver held outdoors?... he got his wish; just four days late... is God telling us something?
