Another point for Team McCain in the media wars
Josh Marshall breaks down for us why the interview that ABC News Charlie Gibson scored with Sarah Palin is a clear win for Team McCain. Having been out of pocket for the weekend, when my iPhone blurted the news to me that Palin would be giving an interview with Gibons of ABC News, I thought that team McCain cowed to media pressure to serve up their VP pick to a serious news interview. But as Josh explains, the way that the interview is structed (a multi-segment over the course of two days) doesn't give Gibson the terms he needs to be successful at nailing Palin down of many of the inconsistancies she needs to answer. By setting up this interview more as a puff piece than a serious news interview, Team McCain scores on two fronts... first, they get the main stream press off their back with regard to Palin giving an interview and second they get to set the terms of the interview to their clear advantage. Gibson had to swallow the conditions or lose the interview. Point for team McCain... they are having a good week.
