Boy they're good... Rovian politics alive and well...

Given the turn that the campaign has taken in the week and a half, I wanted to comment on how well the McCain camp is running their campaign from a Rovian perspective.  McCain and his camp are keeping Obama off message by accusing him supporting sex ed for kindergartners, saying that Obama called Palin a pig, repeating lies in his and Palin's stump speeches over and over and over again and, most importantly, keeping the press and their "on the record" conversations at bay until a time and place of their choosing.

It's a brilliant strategy and one that has given us Bush 2.0 in 2000 and again in 2004.  This is how a campaign that can't run on its record should be run.  Keep the opponent off kilter and make him continue to address the attacks instead of debating health care, foreign policy, energy independence, the economy, etc.  I have to admit that I used to like devising these types of strategies and tactics... it was a game to me and I, like my Mother, played to win.  But after having the tables turned on me while I was working for McCain back in 2000, ironically enough, I didn't like how it felt on the receiving end.  Since getting out of that game, I have come to believe that  Government, the law, politicians and their politics should be above this schoolyard, bullying fray... that our politicians should be held to a higher standard than these attacks suggest.  And, by the way, if McCain and his camp are trying to "pull the wool" over our eyes with this type of campaign, what would a McCain White House look like?  I hope we don't find out.
