McCain's excuse for his dirty campaigning

I've seen McCain throw out an excuse for why his campaign has turned so dirty a few times and was planning on bloggin about it but Richard Gizbert in a blog at Huffpost beat me to it and probably does a much better job than I would have.
Basically, when McCain gets questioned on the lies and smears that his campaign is throwing at Obama, he says that if Obama had agreed to the 10 town hall debates that McCain had suggested, the tenor of the campaign would have been different. Wait a second... he's saying that if Obama had agreed to these debates instead of the three that he HAS agreed to, his campaign wouldn't lie about Obama or smear him? What a crock! The problem is that the main stream press hasn't followed up on this and let's McCain off the hook... but what else would you expect from "his base".
