Former Reagan official denied communion for endorsing Obama
This is a very sad and disturbing story... Doug Kmiec, a former official for President Reagan and pro-life legal scholar, endorsed Obama on the grounds that he felt Obama cared more about the full range of "life" issues (poverty and human rights) and because he believes Obama's "abortion reduction" adgenda will do more to curb abortions than waiting for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Upon making that endorsement, his priest singled him and his choice out in a homily during service and then didn't give him communion. This is outragous. If you read the above linked to blog entry which is in Doug's book, "Can A Catholic Support Him?", you'll see what I mean. I can't help but think that this is the product of the 2004 race and the Rovian politics at play... I guess this priest didn't get the memo that those times are coming to an end quicker than he thinks.
